LEARN THE POWDER COATING PROCESS

Powder coating is increasingly popular because it has many outstanding advantages over conventional paint, especially economic benefits. But to spray cover all product surfaces to make them neat and beautiful and to help save the maximum amount of excess paint, it is necessary to apply the correct electrostatic painting process. Let's learn about this effective Powder coating process with TAC.

Powder coating is increasingly popular because it has many outstanding advantages
Step 1: Prepare/Treat the surface of the product to be painted
The first thing to do is read the manufacturer's instructions for using powder coating, check the paint brand, paint code, type, and drying temperature (to adjust the appropriate temperature for the drying oven).
Check the chemical treatment tank in the following order:
Chemical storage tank used for degreasing,
Acid tank for rust removal, usually using H2SO4 or HCl acid
Clean water tank.
Surface shaping chemical tank.
Surface Phosphating chemical tank.
Product passivation tank.
Clean water tank.
These tanks should be built and covered with Composite plastic. Regularly check chemicals and handle chemicals according to techniques and procedures to achieve quality.
In addition, it is also necessary to regularly check the chemical concentration in the treatment tanks in the early morning or afternoon. If there is a shortage of chemicals, add more.

* Note: Record data clearly, make a clear implementation plan.
Before any powder coating material is applied, the substrate must be cleaned and conditioned to ensure that the part is free of dust, dirt and debris. Because if the surface is not adequately prepared, the remaining residue can affect the adhesion of the powder and the quality of the final finish. If you want the best and highest quality paint coating, you should perform meticulous steps that will help the paint adhere better, the surface will also be smoother, and more aesthetic.
Arrange the products in the chemical tank so that the products are not pressed against each other, are not obscured, do not trap air and can drain easily.
Powder coated products are stored in baskets made of stainless steel mesh. And move easily thanks to the electric hoist system that goes through the chemical tanks in the above order.
* Note: Observe the soaking time, do not soak longer or less. During the time of soaking in the chemical tank, the product must be raised and lowered at least 2-3 times.
Step 2: Dry the product
After being processed in a chemical tank, the product is hung outside so that the water inside flows out. The product must be dried, it can be dried with a fan, or in natural sunlight. Or using a drying oven (maximum temperature of 120 degrees Celsius for 10-15 minutes) will help the product dry quickly before being put into powder coating.
Normally, the drying oven has a cubic shape. The products will be hung on the cart and pushed into the drying oven through the conveyor belt system.
After treatment, the product must be kept in a dry place, free from water and chemicals
Cover. neat products that have been cleaned but have not been painted.

Step 3: Spray Paint
Paint booth
Because the main characteristic of electrostatic paint is dry paint powder, the paint's ability to adhere to the metal surface is due to the impact of electrostatic force. That is why the paint spray booth plays an important role in helping to recover excess paint powder. And the amount of recovered paint powder will be mixed into new paint powder for reuse. This is also one of the economic advantages of powder coating because 99% of the powder coating will be fully used. Excess paint powder during the paint spraying process will be recovered and reused.

Excess paint powder during the paint spraying process will be recovered and reused
There are 2 types of paint spray booths:
Single chamber spray gun (1 spray gun type): Uses only 1 spray gun, the paint product is hung and hooked by hand into the spray chamber.
Double spray chamber spray gun, symmetrical spray chamber (Type 2 spray guns): The paint product will be moved on the conveyor belt into the spray chamber. 2 spray guns on both sides spray on both sides of the product.
Place the product in the paint booth
All products must be checked before being hung on the conveyor belt: Mechanical surfaces, chemically treated surfaces, hangers.... before electrostatic spraying.
Spray the surface of product dust with compressed air, especially the spray direction must be facing outside, not facing other people or facing back into the paint room.
Pay attention to the product's hanger position to avoid leaving hook marks after painting/drying. Note, the product hanger must be sturdy and conduct electricity well. And the minimum distance between products is 100-200mm, depending on product size.
Conduct electrostatic spraying process
The paint gun arm is placed perpendicular to the product to be painted. The distance from the paint gun to the painted product is 10 to 15 cm for hand spraying, and 20 to 25 cm for automatic spray guns.
In addition, for manual spraying (hand spraying): You should paint the edges first, and paint the flat surfaces later. Paint the bottom first, then paint the top.
You should pay attention to the direction of spraying paint, so as not to spray paint into the other person's face
Double chamber spray gun and single chamber spray gun.
Step 4: Dry
Put spray-painted products to dry in the paint drying chamber. Be sure to carefully check the product before closing the dryer. They need to be hung firmly, neatly and neatly, without colliding or touching the painted surface
The drying step will help the electrostatic paint adhere firmly to the surface. And the temperature is set according to standards for each type of product, helping the paint adhere more evenly to the surface.
How to recover residual paint powder after spraying:
Recovering excess paint for recycling is the advantage of installing a powder coating line system. It helps you save production costs.
Helps recover 95% of excess paint and then mix it with new paint powder. The paint recovery process should use Filter or cyclone.

The drying step will help the electrostatic paint adhere firmly to the surface.
Step 5: Check and package the product
Check the color, uniformity, adhesion, paint coverage... of the product after painting
Only pack products that meet standards. Inspection and packaging of finished products depends on each type of item and actual needs.
Layout for high-capacity powder coating systems is the most important thing.
Arrange a reasonable and scientific electrostatic painting system on the factory floor. Then the job of checking packaging will become more convenient. Especially with powder coating processing systems with large capacity and high automation. Reasonable layout will help increase operating capacity and save maximum production area.
Check the color, uniformity, adhesion, and coverage of the product after painting.
